Season those sounds with miles on the road with Johnny Christian, Buddy Guy, and Otis Rush to tighten up one of the baddest horn sections this side of the Mississippi! Don’t believe me? Let the five Living Blues Critics’ Awards for Most Outstanding Horns speak for themselves. The Big Payback was recorded live in Paris at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Club in 2009. The quality is Grade A USDA approved. The feel of the disc is as if you were at the show without the crowd noise. It is a perfect picture of a night in Paris with these Chicago boys bringing down the joint. What’s great about this recording is you can hear Big James Montgomery‘s voice actually loosening up on the first track... ...The Chicago Playboys don’t mess around on this disc. This is a tough disc that really shows how to entertain a crowd and put the horns up front. This album really stirs the pot of the windy city, Memphis, and hard-on funk with sweat. There is a great party atmosphere throughout that heats up to a passionate burn through the slower tracks. If blues music is meant to have feeling, then The Chicago Playboys get it. ~ Kyle M.
