Griffin, who stands 6 feet 10 inches tall and weighs over 350 lbs, certainly lives up to his moniker. He played guitar from an early age but was only converted to the blues as a teenager when he heard the music of artists such as Mike Bloomfield, Muddy Waters and Jimmy Reed on national radio. After finishing college he began performing on the local blues circuit as well as running his own music store. He relocated to Nashville in 1986 to concentrate on establishing a career in music, although initially he was forced to pay his dues as an in-demand session player. After forming the Unknown Blues Band, Griffin signed a recording contract with the Malaco Records subsidiary Waldoxy. The success of the 1992 debut, … Back On The Streets Again, prompted the band to embark on a national tour. Griffin’s electrifying stage presence, allied to his scorching slide guitar work and slyly humorous songs, helped make the band a popular live attraction. Gimme What I Got Comin’ included the highly-praised original ‘Fifth Of Whiskey, Case Of The Blues’, while Sittin’ Here With Nothing, Griffin’s final album for Waldoxy, included two songs written by blues veteran Little Milton (the two men had forged a close friendship on Malaco’s 1993 European tour). Griffin’s next two releases, Harley In The Rain and Twin Brothers Of Different Mothers, were tribute albums to his other great love, Harley Davidson motorcycles. Both albums were released on the Chrome Link Records label... The Encyclopedia of Popular Music by Colin Larkin [/spoyler]==================================================================
